Random Thoughts on DJ's Birthday
I have a big nose like a Jew.
I have a crappy mustache like a Mexican.
When I laugh or smile my eyes look Chinese.
I have the hairy body of an Italian.
But I'm 100% Irish. Irish pale skin, Irish freckles, Irish dark hair, Irish drinking prowess, Irish blue collar attitude.
Oh yeah, and Irish ancestry.

I had two of those "Yes!" moments yesterday. You'll know what I mean when I explain.
For the first time since I was about 10 years old, I found money in my pocket I didn't know I had. I put on a pair of gym shorts and put my wallet in my pocket. Then, later, when I reached into my pocket to make sure I had my wallet, I pulled out 40 bucks. "Yes!" That's right, I actually said it.
The second time was another money-related incident. My mom had done me a favor earlier in the day by cashing my check, and I never looked to see what my balance was. I stopped at Wawa on the way to work to get a sandwich and a drink, and while I was there I took advantage of the free ATM that makes Wawa so great. My balance was much higher than I'd anticipated, and again, I said "Yes!"
I don't know if these incidents are related to money alone. I think the only requirement is that you find something you wanted but didn't know you had. For example, you open the cooler to dump out the melted ice, and what do you know? There's still one beer left. You're hungry, but you don't think you have anything good to eat, when you open the door to find a leftover slice of pizza sitting there waiting for you.

There's nothing more comforting in life than a full tank of gas. You feel so much more free with a full tank than you do with the gauge approaching "E." When I'm driving and there's less than 1/8th of a tank left, all of a sudden I start being really fuel-efficient. I press the gas pedal as little as possible, and only use the brakes if it's absolutely necessary. If I don't have any money on me, it's even tougher because I'm in a race against the gas gauge.
When the tank is full, it's so much more relaxing. I can do whatever I want with the car, and even after a couple hours of driving I'll still have 3/4 of a tank left.
Now I can see why the rental car places want you to fill the tank before you return your car.
